OBITUARY: Sister Patricia Ritchie, SSJ

HOLYOKE – Sister of St. Joseph Patricia (Mary Albert) Ritchie, 77, a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield for 59 years, died Aug. 21 in Mont Marie Health Care Center, Holyoke.

Born in Springfield, Mass., she was the daughter of Mary F. (McIntyre) (Ritchie) Seymour and Albert Ritchie, who died in 1942, and the stepdaughter of George A. Seymour.
She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from St. Michael’s Cathedral Parish, Springfield. She graduated from Cathedral High School and earned a bachelor of arts degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee and a master of arts in education from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.
Her teaching positions included Holy Trinity School, Greenfield and St. Peter School, Worcester, Mass. She was coordinator of the Mont Marie Conference Center and later secretary in the Social Security and Medical Insurance Office at Mont Marie.
In addition to her sisters in community, she is survived by her twin brother, Philip, and his wife Joan of Warwick, R.I.; by her sisters-in-law, Barbara Ritchie of Springfield and Dorothy Ritchie of Feeding Hills; and by her nephew, David, of Springfield. She was predeceased by her brother, Albert Ritchie.
In accord with Sister Patricia’s wishes, a graveside committal service will take place at Mont Marie cemetery on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 3 p.m. In lieu of a wake, a gathering with her family will follow. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place in Mont Marie Chapel at 4 p.m. that day.
