SPRINGFIELD -- Another exciting boys hockey season came to a close March 13 at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Mass., as Cathedral High (17-3-5)  dropped their Super 8 semi-final 3 to 1 to Malden Catholic (19-4), the defending Super 8 champion.

The Panthers had defeated Malden Catholic to end the season, but Malden came prepared, scoring in each period.

Freshman Riley Prattson scored the lone Cathedral goal during a second period power play. Fellow freshman goalie Keith Petruzzelli had a strong game with 33 saves. But Malden’s defense kept Cathedral out of the offensive zone for much of the critical third period.

This was the farthest the Panthers have gotten in the Super 8 tournament, and with just one graduating senior it wouldn’t appear to be the last appearance.
