SPRINGFIELD – An inspirational book, The Hummer and the Hummed: A Contemplative Reflection on the Spiritual Life, by Dominican Sister Mary of the Sacred Heart Sawicki, is now available in Spanish.

The cloistered Dominican nun, who has been at the Dominican Monastery of the Mother of God in West Springfield since 1964, worked with Felipe Neri Pantoja Jr., a Third Order Dominican, on the project.

The Spanish title is El Susurrador y Susurrado: Una Reflecion Contempativa de la Vida Espiritual.

Sister Sawicki praised Pantoja who translated the 64-page book. He did not charge for his work – except asking for some prayers, according to Sister Sawicki.

The book, which was published in English in 2011, uses the imagery of the hummingbird to explain spiritual life.

Dominican Father Bruno Cadore, master of the Dominican Order, said of the book: “In a refreshing manner, Sister Mary of the Sacred Heart speaks of contemplative prayer using the image of the hummingbird. In this reflection she shares with us not only her own beautiful reflections, but also the gentle, attentive manner in which God becomes intimately present in the depth of the human person.”

Her book, both in English and Spanish, is available on Amazon.com. For more information call the Dominican Monastery at 413-736-3639.
