OBITUARY: Sister Doris Graves, SSJ
HOLYOKE – Sister of St. Joseph Doris Graves (formerly Sister Maria Vincent), 81, member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died in Mont Marie Health Care Center, here, on Oct. 16. Born in Millbury, Mass., she was the daughter of William and Irene (Callaghan) Graves.
She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield in 1950 from Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Millbury. She graduated from Millbury Public Schools and received a bachelor of arts degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee. She also pursued further studies in mathematics at Boston College, Fordham University, the University of Massachusetts and Purdue University.
She served for 45 years as a teacher in the mathematics department of Cathedral High School, Springfield. After her retirement in 1997, she worked in the Mont Marie Development Office as an assistant.
In addition to her sisters in community, she is survived by her siblings, Edith Eileen Eramo and Albert Leroy Graves, both of Millbury; Margaret Mary Dahlstrom of North Grafton, Mass.; and James Charles Graves of Sutton, Mass. She was predeceased by her siblings, William Herbert Graves, Maurice Bernard Graves, John Terrence Graves, Patricia Ann Thomas, and Janet Irene Graves.
The wake will take place at Mont Marie on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9-10:30 a.m., with a prayer service at 10, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in Mont Marie Chapel at 11. Burial will follow in Mont Marie Cemetery.
