Holyoke area parishes sponsor two-part series on Vatican II
HOLYOKE – As part of the worldwide observation of the Year of Faith, the Catholic parishes of Holyoke, South Hadley and Granby will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council with two talks at the Pope John Paul Center on Kolbe Drive, next to Mater Dolorosa School.
Today, Sept. 25, Father Mark Stelzer will speak at 7 p.m. on "Vatican II -- History, Themes and Foundations." This session will focus on the unique style of the Vatican II documents and the substantive teaching that emerged from the council.
On Wednesday, Oct. 9, Father Warren Savage will speak on "Vatican II -- The Ongoing Renewal," also at 7 p.m. This session will focus on the unfinished agenda of the council and ways in which the council’s legacy continues to flourish and expand.
Fathers Stelzer and Savage are both members of the Elms College religious studies faculty.
The series is sponsored by the Greater Holyoke Deanery, which includes St. Patrick and St. Theresa parishes, in South Hadley; Our Lady of the Cross, Immaculate Conception, Our Lady of Guadalupe and Blessed Sacrament parishes in Holyoke; and Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Granby.
All are welcome to attend.
