OBITUARY: Father Flavian A. Walsh, OFM, Springfield native

SPRINGFIELD – Franciscan Father Flavian A. Walsh, 82, formerly of the Ward 2 section of Springfield, died Friday, Oct. 12.
Son of the late William and Anna (Davis), he was born in Springfield on April 28, 1930. He was professed as a Franciscan in 1951 and was ordained as a priest in 1956.
He served for 20 years as a missionary in Japan and then as provincial vicar of the Franciscans’ Holy Name Province. He currently was serving at St. Anthony's Shrine, 100 Arch St., Boston.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Paul Walsh. He is survived by two brothers, George Walsh of South Hadley and Joseph Walsh of East Longmeadow; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass for Father Walsh will be celebrated at noon on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut St., Springfield.
