    Father Richard McBrien, prolific theologian and essayist, dies at 78

    WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Father Richard P. McBrien, a retired professor of theology at the University of Notre Dame and who was chair of the university's theology department for 11 years, died Jan. 25 at age 78 in his native Connecticut.
